CURRENT LOCATIONS
In mid August 2009 we implanted 10 satellite transmitters into adult female and juvenile King Eiders on a lake in northern Alaska. They joined the remaining 11 birds that we captured there in 2008, and an overview of all the active transmitter's most recent locations is shown on the map below. For an interactive map you can download the location information and view the locations in GoogleEarth.

Sea ice is an important factor that affects the distribution of sea ducks in winter. Data on the current distribution of sea ice are provided by the National Snow and Ice Data Center.

Weather conditions around the Beaufort Sea are cool even during the summer months. To get an impression of the weather conditions the King Eiders are currently experiencing on or near their breeding ground refer to the weather banners below. Up-to-date weather situations are shown from two stations on Alaska's North coast (Barrow and Prudhoe Bay), as well as two stations from the Canadian Arctic (Holman Island and Sachs Harbour).
