Seth Adams

Undergraduate student
Institute of Arctic Biology and
Department of Biology and Wildlife
University of Alaska Fairbanks
Fairbanks, AK 99775-7000

Seth initiated a project in May 2004 to characterize the mycorrhizal fungal associations of lady's slipper orchids (Cypripedium guttatum) in Interior Alaska using DNA sequence-based methods. The goal was to determine the level of specificity of the associations and whether the fungal associations vary across habitats (e.g. upland versus floodplain, spruce-dominated versus aspen versus poplar dominated). Seth was awarded EPSCoR and Office of Sponsored Projects undergraduate research grants to continue his work in the fall and spring of 2005. Seth graduated in May 2005 and has now begun graduate work in the School of Forestry at the University of British Columbia.
