While still a high school student, Mitali assisted with molecular benchwork for the Metagenomics of Boreal Forest Fungi in the summer of 2006 with support from the Army REAP program. Mitali also worked with postdoc József Geml to assess the host ectomycorrhizal host-specificity of different cryptic species within the Amanita muscaria complex.
