Michelle joined the lab as a tech in the spring of 2005, then became an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduate student in the summer of 2005. The goal of her ongoing undergraduate research project is to use molecular phylogenetic methods to clarify the origins and taxonomy of Alaska species of the mushroom genus Leccinum. Leccinum is an abundant, tasty, and important ectomycorrhizal fungus in Alaska. Michelle continues to help with Herbarium Databasing and soil processing for the Fungal Metagenomics Project.
