Hope joined the lab as a tech in the spring of 2005, then became an NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduate student in the summer of 2005. Her project involved isolation of symbiotic N-fixing bacteria from Alaskan lupines. She then carried out molecular analysis of the Bradyrhizobium isolates, and found very high genetic diversity among her isolates. Hope also contribued to Herbarium Databasing and soil processing for the Fungal Metagenomics Project. Hope graduated in the spring of 2006.
