George Happ - Research

Insect research

Over the period from 1959 through 1995 (Cornell, Catholic University of America, NYU, Colorado State, and Vermont), my laboratory group was engaged in research in the fields of insect physiology, development, and behavior.

In Alaska, we explore the cellular response of arthropod vectors to infection by species of Francisella (responsible for tularemia).

Mammal immunogenetics

We are interested in the comparative biology of Major Histocompatibility Complex loci, including those of dogs, wolves, foxes, bears, muskoxen, caribou, elk, and moose. We also investigatethe potential links between MHC loci and autoimmune disease in dogs.

Infectious Agents

We study the molecular ecology of Francisella tularensis and the genes required for life within the cells of vectors.

We examine the prevalence and genotypes of avian influenza virus in Alaska bioreservoirs.

We catalog the alleles of prion genes in moose and caribou.
