NOTE: This program leads to a B.S. in Biology
1) Keep in mind that this is a sample program and students are not obligated to follow this schedule.
PV Denotes
pre-veterinary course requirements for most WICHE
Veterinary Schools. VERY IMPORTANT: Although pre-veterinary
requirements are very similar among the U.S. Veterinary Schools
you must pay attention to the subtle differences. You should
obtain specific information pertaining to each Veterinary School
you are interested in at an early stage in course planning.
* Denotes courses required for a B.S. in
Biology.
+ Other courses may be substituted to fulfill
requirements for a B.S. in Biology. These are biology courses
I consider appropriate for future veterinarians. Some are
also pre-vet requirements for veterinary schools (i.e. BIOL 342
- Microbiology; BIOL 418 - Developmental Biology; BIOL 461 -
Cell Biology).
WSU Denotes
courses needed to fulfill the General Education Requirements
at Washington State University (see 5 below).
2) Ensure that you seek advice when planning your program of study, especially if planning to apply to veterinary colleges outside the WICHE program. Read the entire pre-vet advising package!
3) High School standing and SAT scores in Math and English will affect your enrollment in courses.
4) Most students apply to veterinary school in the fall of their junior year -- plan to take the GRE examination by October 15th of your junior year. Some non-WICHE schools may want the VCAT.
5) Consider the general education requirements at Washington State University if you apply prior to getting a B.S. at UAF. Click here for additional information. Other schools may have similar requirements -- FIND OUT NOW!

1 Some of the Veterinary Schools will accept BIOL 303 as a course in biochemistry. However, a few Veterinary Schools will NOT accept this course, notably University of Wisconsin and University of Tennessee. Be warned that I have not checked all the schools in the USA! If you want to take BIOL 303 instead of CHEM 451 you need to check with the schools you intend to apply to before wasting your application money! Also, some schools (i.e. KSU) require a biochemistry lab that is not incorporated into this sample program. Please check specific school requirements because you might need to fit in the biochemistry lab course: CHEM 452.

MUST TOTAL 130 CREDITS FOR A DEGREE
More Notes:
You need 2 upper division W courses and 1
upper division O course (or 2 O/2 courses).
You must fulfill the UAF
core (X) curriculum -- check your BS in Biology worksheet.
Consider these useful courses for future
veterinarians:
NRM 321 - Applied Animal Nutrition (may be petitioned for upper division biology credit)
ENG 314W,O/2 - Technical Writing
STAT 401 - Regression and Analysis of Variance
WLF 305 - Wildlife Diseases
