Basic information about the UAF Pre-Veterinary Medicine program. Includes UAF course equivalents for Washington State University, Oregon State University, Colorado State University, University of California Davis, and Kansas State University.
This is a current program based on the 2002/2003 UAF Catalog! It also contains links to UAF course descriptions and information on Washington State University General Education Requirements.
Here is a sample 4-year program for study at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. It is designed for the student seeking a B.S. in Biology and caters to students entering their freshman year with a strong educational background. Students interested in our Wildlife Biology program will require some extra planning to meet both the pre-veterinary requirements and the course requirements set forth by the Wildlife Society. Remember that you do not need a baccalaureate degree to apply to a veterinary school! I generally recommend applying to a veterinary school in the fall of your junior year. If you get accepted you can reduce your term at UAF by 1 year. If you do not get into veterinary school -- keep on applying! Being turned down does not affect subsequent applications.
Here is some basic information to help plan high school courses that will prepare you for the University's Pre-Veterinary Medicine Program.
Veterinary Colleges in the United States - there are 27 of them
Majority of the Veterinary Schools in the U.S.A. now use a common application service. Visit the VMCAS site to learn more about the program and which schools participate.
Find links to Veterinary Schools throughout the USA and the rest of the world. There are also links to departments of comparative medicine, veterinary technology, public health and other pre-vet programs.
