Historically most project that drove to the Toolik Field Station rented a vehicle from IAB. Fuel was included in the rental cost with the convenience of IAB having a fueling station at TFS.  IAB is no longer maintaining a fleet of rental vehicles for haul road use.

If you plan to acquire fuel at TFS your project needs to establish an account with IAB.  A Purchase Order from your home institution or pre approved credit card are the two most common methods of payment.

THE FOLLOWING ARE COMMON MISUNDERSTANDINGS & HEADS UP
If you rent a truck from VECO in Prudhoe Bay, you are responsible for payment for fuel at TFS and you must have a method (Credit Card) to pay for refueling the truck at the Prudhoe Bay gas station before returning.

If VPR provides a truck from VECO in Prudhoe Bay, you are responsible for payment for fuel at TFS and you must have a method (Credit Card) to pay for refueling the truck at the Prudhoe Bay gas station before returning.

If you rent a truck in Fairbanks (Commercial or UAF), you are responsible for payment for fuel at TFS and you must have a method (Credit Card ) to pay for refueling the truck in Fairbanks before returning.

If VPR provides a truck in Fairbanks, you are responsible for payment for fuel at TFS and you must have a method (Credit Card)) to pay for refueling the truck in Fairbanks before returning.

The Marine Biological Laboratory fuel account only authorizes MBL trucks.

The VECO fuel account only authorizes VECO contractors and VPR science support staff or VPR authorized trucks.

If you have a UAF truck, you are responsible for payment for fuel at TFS.  A current UAF account (Fund-Org for JV) is acceptable.
