Projects requesting support from the Toolik Field Station are required to coordinate proposed activities with various regulatory agencies and TFS departments.  This flow chart provides a “check list” to help navigate the process.  NOTE: This matrix is for land administered by the Bureau of  Land Management not State land administered by the AK Division of  Natural Resources.

SITE SCOPING WITH TFS GIS

 

Step 3

Contact Toolik GIS Office to begin research site selection process

Provide the following information:

a, Requirements of your research site, for example:

, i., vegetation- moist acidic tundra, shrubs, , ,

, ii., topographic- elevation, slope, , , ,

, iii. , hydrographic- water proximity, , , ,

, iv., geographic- Imnavait watershed, Toolik Lake, Anaktuvuk Burn,

, v. , infrastructure- away from roads, near boardwalks, close to MetStation

b, Obtain completed map and GPS coordinates for proposed research sites

 

GIS staff  need one month lead time before you anticipate submitting permit application.

 

 

PRELIMINARY PERMIT SCOPING WITH BLM

Contact Joyce Voight at AK BLM Office to begin BLM Permit application process,

 

Two months before you plan to submit application.

 

 

PROJECT FUNDED

 

Step 5

 

Notify Toolik and BLM project was funded.

 

 

 

BLM PERMIT APPLICATION

Contact Joyce Voight at AK BLM Office to begin BLM Permit process,

Provide the following information:

a, Complete description of your research

b, Completed map and GPS coordinates for proposed research sites

c, Submit payment for BLM permit fee

d, Obtain BLM permit approval

NOTE: If you application is not complete, the review process will not begin. The preferred time to submit applications for summer field work is January/February.

 

Allow at minimum three months for processing. 

 

 

BLM PERMIT AWARDED

Permit approved, fees paid to BLM. Submit copy to IAB-Logistics  Office.
