Taxonomy and Identification for North American Species

Order Anseriformes

  • Long necked
  • Short legged
  • Semi-aquatic
  • Primary wing feathers (1st always reduced in size)
  • Feathered oil gland
  • Adults have undercoat of down
  • Precocial young
