WLF 201
Lab 1 - Data Collection

Before we discuss the use of data in principles of wildlife management, we will consider some principles of data collection. You will collect the data that we will use in this lab and next weeks lab.

We will examine wolf harvest data collected by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADFG) to learn more about data collection, management, and analysis. Biologist working for ADFG divide the state in geophysical units to improve game management. Harvest records for each of these units is collected by requiring hunters and trappers to report their harvest to ADFG (Wolf Harvest Report 2001).

Your in-lab assignment is to select 10 data points on wolf harvest from any GMU and any year. You should have some explanation of why you selected those particularly numbers. Using Excel, calculate the mean and standard deviation of your sample. Write those numbers on the board.
