Course Objectives:  Application of ecological concepts to the study and management of wildlife populations and their habitat.  Management of game and non-game species considered.  Computer exercises explore population dynamics, habitat use, and harvest strategies.

This course will introduce students to principles used to protect or manipulate wildlife populations for a specific objective.  Effective management first requires an understanding of the ecology of wildlife and their habitats, so we will focus on those topics throughout most of the semester.  We will also examine principles of sampling, harvest, and human-dimensions as these concepts influence are ability to manage wildlife.  Lab exercises will generally demonstrate hands-on applications of wildlife management principles.  Students will also be required to apply concepts learned during lecture to a term project.  BIOL 271 is a prerequisite for this class and students should have some familiarity with computers.
