Which Instrument Set-up do you need?

Sequencing:

The ABI 3100 Genetic Analyzer is used for fragment analysis and standard sequencing usually with a 50cm array and polymer 6 (Pop6), which gives sequence reads up to about 500-700 base pairs.

The ABI 3130xl Genetic Analyzer is used mostly for longer sequencing or fragment analysis with a 50cm array and Pop7 (up to 900bps) or in rare cases the 80cm array with Pop7 (800-1000 bps) which takes twice as much time and polymer. The 3130xl is also run sometimes with a 50cm array and Pop6 which makes it identical to the 3100 with the same conditions.

Fragment Analysis:

Fragment analysis can be run on the 50cm array with either Pop6 or Pop7 but should not be alternated within one marker because electrophoresis of fragments may be different between the polymers making it harder to compare sizing.
