Core Lab Equipment: ABI 7900HT (Real-Time PCR)

Description:

The ABI 7900 HT system offers Real-Time detection (i.e., quantification) of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) or Endpoint assay measurements of PCR. The 7900 is built for high throughput with the capability for 96 or 384 well block format. The blocks are easily exchangeable (If you need the block changed contact a Core Lab Tech). The instrument is also compatible with an automated plate loader for high throughput (we do not have this addition). The SDS 2.1 software manages and analyzes data for SNP genotyping and gene expression, with a choice between Absolute or Relative quantitation methods for gene expression. Two types of chemistries are used to detect PCR products using the Sequence Detection Systems (SDS) instrument, TaqMan and SYBR Green.

Chemistries:

  • Sybr Green
  • Taqman: FAM, VIC, NED, ETC
  • Quencher dyes: Tamara, NFQ-MGB
  • Reference: Passive ROX Reference

Software:

  • Primer Express 2.0 software for designing primers and TaqMan probes
  • Sequence Detection Software 2.1 to analyze data

User information :

This instrument is run by the user, however, the Core Lab Techs are happy to help get people started with the machine and software and will help with any problems. Chemistry must be supplied by the user. 96-well plates are available for purchase (these are the same plates used for sequencing) but at this time we do not have 384-well plates or optical covers available. See fees page for pricing on Real-Time PCR runs.

Location:

Core Lab, WRRB 207
