EPSCoR Landscape Genetics Waiver
Alaska EPSCoR is offering up to 25 registration waivers (covering the cost of registration only) to undergraduate or graduate students who deliver oral presentations on the general theme of landscape genetics at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Society of Mammalogists. Landscape genetics is one of two foci of the biology component of Alaska EPSCoR's Phase III initiative and is defined here as using genetic approaches to "identify the influence of geography, geology, and climate on past species migrations with the intent of predicting future changes in species distributions and abundances." For those students interested in applying, please send the following information exactly as indicated to Link Olson, co-chair of the 2009 Local Committee, with "Landscape genetics registration waiver" in the subject line:
•Title (no more than 15 words)
•Author(s) (student applicant must be first author and presenter)
•Abstract (no more than 200 words).
•Student status (undergraduate or graduate student)
•Departmental and institutional affiliation (address)
•Advisor's or faculty mentor's name and contact information (e-mail and phone number)
Your abstract will be reviewed by a committee of EPSCoR-affiliated faculty and researchers in consultation with the Local Committee. If deemed appropriate to the field of landscape genetics as defined above (and mammalogy!), you will be notified and instructed on how to register for the meetings without being charged registration. Registration waivers will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Recipients of the 2008 Shadle and ASM Fellowships, as well as 2009 honoraria awardees, are not eligible. Applications must be received by the posted deadline for early registration.
