A degree option in Neuroscience is offered for M.S. and Ph.D. students through the Program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology since the fall of 2005 and is administered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. For more details on the requirements, please refer to the list below.
The Neuroscience option is the consequence of an increasing number of research faculty in the Neurosciences and their committment to excellence in graduate education, research training, and mentorship. Research opportunities in cellular/molecular aspects of CNS neuroprotection and adaption and related regulatory mechanisms at system levels all are multidisciplinary and collaborative by nature with research faculty affiliations from a wide range of academic units at the University of Alaska Fairbanks but also across campuses (University of Alaska Anchorage and University of Alaska Southeast).Neuroscience research is largely supported by a Specialized Neuroscience Research Program (SNRP) through NINDS, NIMH, and NCRR.
Our goal for the gaduating student is to achieve broad expertise in the thesis research field, acquire an extensive knowledge in contemporary techniques, and become an independent, self-sufficient scientist acting with the highest ethical conduct.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry welcomes all applicants and provides help with any aspect of the application process. (fychem@uaf.edu) |
